Learn for Free How to Deploy Cloudera Enterprise on Microsoft Azure

At Cloudera, we spend our time helping customers benefit from data. We help them with different types of data—structured, semi-structured, or raw unstructured. We also help them implement solutions for storing, tracing, securing, processing, enriching, analyzing, and visualizing it.

Over the past several years, we’ve observed that customers are increasingly working with their data in the cloud, and Microsoft’s Azure cloud service is a popular deployment option. Cloudera University is pleased to announce a free course, built in collaboration with Microsoft and offered through our OnDemand learning platform, which will teach you how to deploy and scale Cloudera’s modern analytic platform for machine learning and analytics on Microsoft Azure.

If you are ready to get started, we invite you to enroll in Deploying and Scaling Cloudera Enterprise on Microsoft Azure.

Course Prerequisites

This course does not assume prior experience with Cloudera Enterprise, Cloudera Director, Cloudera Altus, Microsoft Azure, or big data solutions for the cloud. Administrators and developers alike will learn how to deploy on Azure, including how to use our Altus Data Engineering PaaS (Platform-as-a-Service) offering.

What You’ll Learn

You will start by learning the Microsoft Azure services required to deploy a secure, elastic, Cloudera Enterprise cluster. These core services include security, networking, virtual machine management, and storage, just to name a few.

Then, you’ll learn best practices and patterns for cloud-based clusters, including tips and caveats for security and workload management.

Next, you’ll learn how to bootstrap a cluster using Cloudera Manager, which allows you to deploy a cluster on premises or in the cloud. The module covers how to deploy both development (Path A) and production-grade (Path B) clusters.

You will also learn how to perform a one-click deployment of Cloudera’s Enterprise Data Hub using an Azure Marketplace app.

Moving to the cloud brings many new advantages, and this module, will show you how to automate deployments in Microsoft Azure using Cloudera Director.

With Cloudera Director, you can deploy and manage the cluster lifecycle with just a few clicks. You can create environments, spin up Cloudera Manager instances and CDH clusters with very little effort, and benefit from the optimal cluster configurations that are based on years of experience by Cloudera’s experts.

You will learn not only the UI, but also how to manage cluster lifecycle via the command line, which lets you version and share cluster configuration. The training will introduce you to the API so you can take your cluster management to the next level.

The first five modules in this course use Microsoft Azure as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), which means that while Microsoft manages the data center, we manage the cluster itself. The final module continues to work with Microsoft Azure, and introduces Altus, Cloudera’s PaaS offering. Using Altus on Azure relieves you from installing, configuring, monitoring, and updating the platform, which lets you focus on the the jobs you want to run.

Altus on Azure

Altus makes it easy to spin up a role-specific cluster instantly and do your work, whether that’s a job that takes just a few minutes or a series of jobs that runs for days at a time. When you’re done, you can shut it down and spin up a new one when needed. This reduces costs, increases productivity, and maximizes flexibility. The Workload Analytics feature helps you monitor job performance, compare runs, troubleshoot, and optimize your workload.

With Altus on Azure, Cloudera and Microsoft handle your infrastructure, so you can focus on what’s important: running your jobs quickly and efficiently.

If you want to learn how to deploy Cloudera Enterprise clusters on Microsoft Azure, be it with Cloudera Manager, Azure Marketplace, Cloudera Director, or you simply want to focus on your jobs with Cloudera Altus, we invite you to take the course for free through Cloudera OnDemand, a self-paced, online training platform that helps students learn valuable new skills when and where it’s most convenient for them.

We invite you to join us for Deploying and Scaling Cloudera Enterprise on Microsoft Azure at Cloudera University.
