Cloudera has been recognized as a Visionary in 2021 Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Cloud Database Management Systems (DBMS) and for the first time, evaluated CDP Operational Database (COD) against the 12 critical capabilities for Operational Databases. Overall, Gartner recognized 20 vendors for the Magic Quadrant of which 16 were evaluated in the 2021 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Cloud Database Management Systems for Operational Use Cases and 18 vendors for the 2021 Gartner Critical Capabilities for Cloud Database Management Systems for Analytical Use cases. At the time of submission, COD was generally available for just one quarter and the report was the first time that Gartner has evaluated Cloudera’s RDBMS capabilities as part of a Magic Quadrant or Critical Capabilities assessment. In the report, Cloudera scored at or above “Good: meets requirements,” on the four assessed use cases: Traditional Transactions, Augmented Transaction Processing, Stream/Event Processing and Operational Intelligence.
COD enables customers to deliver prototypes within an hour in a cloud of your choice — AWS and Azure are generally available, GCP is available in Tech Preview — with the power to effortlessly scale to petabytes of data. Designed with high availability built into the architecture, it is ideal for supporting mission-critical applications.
Evolutionary schema is supported. With this, customers can bring existing relational schema to the database and allow for schema evaluation as applications evolve. Software engineering can now continue to innovate without impacting data engineering and existing ETL jobs. In addition, COD delivers a significant TCO reduction relative to existing HBase deployments.
Cloudera scored above 3 on all four use cases despite being early in the product lifecycle for CDP Operational Database and our overall scores across both Critical capabilities reports leads us to believe that Cloudera is well positioned to be the single vendor that can help customers meet all of their data management needs.
We believe, Gartner Magic Quadrant recognition and Critical Capabilities mention of Cloudera Operational Database exemplifies our product excellence and vision of a hybrid, multifunction platform and our commitment to helping customers transition to cloud successfully.
What Cloudera COD customers are saying
“CDP Operational Database enabled us to move one of our main datasets into the new database on AWS in record time,” said Briglal Kattamaparambil, Director of Development at Epsilon. “We no longer have to worry about infrastructure planning as it is fully self-managed and allows us the flexibility to choose the cloud platform that works best for our business.”
Colin Burn, Connectivity Platform Manager at Daimler Trucks stated “We use CDP Operational Database in Microsoft Azure because it allows us to focus on innovating and driving telematics solutions across our organization to better serve our customers. Knowing that we have a reliable application database that can run on any cloud platform or on-premises, allows us to manage all of our data in one place without worrying about usage spikes that can cause downstream application failure.”
What the users are saying in Gartner Peer Insights™ rating for COD
“Overall good product with dynamic/auto scaling with s3/object storage as the storage medium with acceptable performance. It doesn’t require Hadoop admin expertise to set up the database. It also helps to reduce the maintenance cost with no/minimum operational time required to manage it.”
