Hundreds of Clouderans worldwide turn out for Global Day of Service

From Singapore to Silicon Valley, employees in 19 locations give back to their communities.

Cloudera’s Second Annual Global Day of Service on Oct. 4 was a 24-hour chain reaction of goodness.

Guided by the motto “We Are One,” hundreds of Clouderans across the world showed their true colors as they joined their colleagues to volunteer and support the nonprofits closest to their hearts. This united effort has become a signature event for the Cloudera Cares employee giving program.

Cork, Ireland: Cloudera volunteers hosted a food drive and served meals in a soup kitchen.

Budapest, Hungary: Clouderans engaged students with games and crafts at a local school for children with special needs.

Just like last year, when we say Global Day of Service, we really mean it. Employees across different departments volunteered in 19 locations in 9 countries to support 23 local nonprofits. Best of all, as the company has grown so has the Global Day of Service: We saw an increase in volunteer events and in the number of overall volunteers. It was truly exciting that this year even more Clouderans demonstrated their genuine commitment to giving back.

Seeing one activity after another unfold in real time was the best part. Our Singapore colleagues kicked off the Global Day of Service and as the day progressed, Clouderans around the world from Bangalore to London to Nashua (to name just a few) inspired their colleagues with photos and videos and even shared their excitement across social media (#clouderacares for the win!). It was inspiring to see so many dedicated employees working side-by-side and engaging with their communities.

Singapore: Clouderans spent their day at Willing Hearts, which serves the elderly, disabled, low-income families, poverty-stricken families, and migrant workers. Volunteers prepared food, cleaned, and served meals.

Here are a few examples of the many ways Clouderans gave back on Oct. 4:

  • In Singapore employees prepared meals at a community kitchen for those in need.
  • Employees in Manila packaged medicine and food donations for the children of the White Cross Orphanage.
  • Clouderans in Chennai picked up trash and cleared debris as part of a beach clean up.
  • Bangalore employees repainted an entire primary school, inside and out!
  • Our Cork colleagues supported a local soup kitchen in a number of ways. In the run-up to the Global Day of Service, employees participated in a food and donation drive and on the 4th employees served meals.
  • In Budapest, Clouderans visited a school for children with special needs to engage in fun games and craft projects. A second group prepped meals to be distributed to those in need.
  • Colleagues in Chile participated in a blood drive.
  • Clouderans in Tysons, Va, partnered with the Special Olympics and helped set up for a competition the following day.
  • In Austin, staff painted murals and created a community garden at a newly established school dedicated to providing a supportive environment for a diverse group of students.
  • Palo Alto, in conjunction with Santa Clara and San Francisco employees, closed the day with 3 volunteer events: a career readiness session with underserved high school students, assembling hundreds of hygiene kits for local shelters, and running an entrepreneurship design-thinking session with middle schoolers committed to STEM and giving them a glimpse of life at Cloudera.

Chennai, India: Clouderans prepare for the beach clean up.

None of this would be possible without a committed network of Cloudera Cares Ambassadors. The Ambassadors are Cloudera employees who volunteer to lead, plan and execute volunteer events throughout the year, as well as on the Global Day of Service.
