What’s your morning pick me up drink?

I go with a V-8 energy drink. It gives me all my fruits and veggies with an added boost!

What brought you to Cloudera?

I came to the organization because of my interest in data & analytics specific to the insurance industry. I have a passion for D&A and business outcomes!

What’s your favorite part of your job?

I love working with our customers and partners, and helping them solve a problem, seeing the outcome and the impact we are having on their business.

How is Cloudera helping the world throughout COVID-19?

Customers are leveraging our platform to help with key essential services inside and outside the healthcare industry. Our platform is really empowering a lot of things to happen.

Here are a few examples:

Insurance:

Now more than ever Insurers need to use technologies such as analytics and cloud to their advantage.  A lot of the traditional in-person methods used for gathering data in insurance are now impossible and new ways of capturing data remotely are being implemented. The data being captured in forms of structured and unstructured data can unlock new insights.  Leveraging CDP, the cloud can store the structured and unstructured data, and allow new types of data, processes, and models based on real-time analytics to be spun up and scaled faster than ever before.

Finance:

Using Cloudera’s data platform, Indonesian Bank Madiri, can manage more than 100 million data records on a daily basis and make use of data-driven insights to adapt to the changing situation more quickly while monitoring the health of its customers and employees, and maintaining compliance with prevailing regulations. Press Release.

Healthcare:

Pre-pandemic, Yale New Haven Health was using CDP in its cancer research platform. During the pandemic, the company was able to quickly transition to Covid-19 research with all the necessary components and processes already in place. In a week’s time, their research department was able to hit the ground running, as referenced in Forbes.

What do you do for fun on the weekends?

Spending time outside, gardening and sitting on the patio enjoying wine in the summer pinot grigio, winter pinot noir.

What’s an initiative you’ve worked on that’s made you feel proud/satisfied?

I’m part of the Cloudera equality committee, it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m so happy to have the opportunity.

What are you reading/listening to right now?

Between the World and Me, a nonfiction book written by Ta-Nehisi Coates. It’s a great book that’s written in the form of a letter from the author to his teenage son that details the feeling, realities, and symbolism of being a black man in the United States.

What advice would you give your younger self?

Don’t wait until later in your career to be vocal! It’s okay to be vocal and have an opinion.

While focusing on your career, make sure you are also giving yourself opportunities to be a well-rounded person.

What do you look for when hiring for your team?

I’ve always said, having lived and worked on the other side of the table, do not have a generic conversation. We need to talk in the language of our customer’s business, we need to be empathetic to the challenges.

The industry team represents our target/buyer on the business side of our customers and prospects. Each one has either owned a business unit or held a senior leadership role in their respective industry, with many being recognized as a thought leader in that industry. For example, Michael Ger has been in manufacturing technology for 30+ years and he’s an industry thought leader in Industry 4.0 & the Connected Car. Brent Biddulph has developed and led numerous customer loyalty and supply chain initiatives at major retailers in the US. Monique Hesseling was the CMO and head of Product Strategy for a Global Insurance company and Abbas Mooraj has been in the healthcare space for 20+ years. Customers want to listen and learn from them.

For Cloudera, they bring the perspective of our customers as they have “sat in the same chair”, know their industry in and out. They are a visionary and a thought leader, and well respected from the business side and their peers. They help bridge the gap between what our customers are thinking and hear what our customers need to do, and they understand enough about the tech that they know how we and our partners can solve the problem.
