Announcing the 2019 Data Impact Awards Finalists

The annual Data Impact Awards recognize organizations running the Cloudera platform to innovate and problem-solve, with substantial benefit to their business, their industry, or the world at large. The program was designed to showcase the possibilities and celebrate the impacts.

For us Clouderans, the Data Impact Awards are the highlight of our year and probably the time of year when we learn the most. While we spend many months developing new versions of our products and educating on and evangelizing those products, for these late-summer and early-fall months we get to see those products put in action in ways we’ve never imagined. The impact of the work we do is brought to life by what our customers accomplish. Every year, new use cases are brought to light, advancing our perception of what is possible.

Organizations across every industry and every geography are making investments in their data strategies in preparation for a future where data is undeniably the most valuable asset. We are thrilled this year to have representation across almost every continent on Earth. And we are even more thrilled to see data’s impact across a wide set of industries, from banking to manufacturing, from telecom to the public sector.

We owe a great debt to our panel of judges who provided over 400 total nomination evaluations. The group of industry analysts and journalists are thought leaders in the areas of data management, advanced analytics, and data science and have a sharp perspective of technology trends and industry momentum.

Here’s what a few of our judges had to say after reviewing and scoring nominations:

“The nominations’ data initiatives are driving digital transformations toward a higher level of repeatability, scale, and innovation; they are making data, as well as the associated process and people aspects, ready for the future.”

– Jessie Cai Danqing, Senior Research Manager, IDC Asia Pacific

“Cloudera technology is being used to help businesses be more successful, organizations to run more smoothly and governments to prevent and reduce fraud. Moreover, the more federated, less monolithic architectures used in the underlying open-source analytics technologies are bringing cohesion to previously fragmented data estates. We merely imagined these use cases years ago. But these award winners are implementing them in the real world, and they’re reaping the rewards.“

– Andrew Brust, Founder & CEO at Blue Badge Insights; ZDNet Contributor and GigaOm Analyst

“Entrants in this year’s Data Impact Awards are caught in, and propelled by, a cultural zeitgeist: public awareness of the value and sensitivity of data. Today’s concerns over data protection and privacy urge a trust-based model where information is exchanged fairly and governed with respect. Finalists exemplify this two-way relationship, defensibly using data to maximize their own business efficiency while also crafting optimal experiences for their customers/citizens.”

– Paige Bartley, Senior Analyst, Data, AI & Analytics, 451 Research

“Data is and will remains the fuel for business for the 21st century. As enterprises need to operate in the era of infinite computing, Hadoop provides the infinite (affordable) storage and infinite query option, that is what enterprises need to accelerate in the era of digital transformation. It was great to see great case studies showing what business benefits enterprises can achieve with BigData solutions.”

– Holger Mueller, Principal Analyst and VP, Constellation Research
